[ARCHIVED] Password Protection

fingers typing on keyboard and text "password"

It's never too late to tighten up security of your online accounts. In fact, now is a great time to make sure loved ones are protected, too. The first thing you should do is pay attention to your passwords. Thousands of accounts still get hacked because users passwords are too easy to crack.

According to NordPass, the most commonly hacked passwords of 2022 included the following:
Password
123456
123456789
Guest
Qwerty
12345678
111111
12345
Col123456
123123

Other common problems include creating passwords that are easy for people to guess. For example, passwords with your pet's name or your child's name. Other easy-to-guess passwords might include birthdays or addresses.

The best rule of thumb is to create longer passwords that only make sense to you. This could be an unusual string of words and numbers (AppleHammerYellow57) or take the first letter from each word of a sentence (IIwtlIwb2h for If I win the lottery I will buy 2 houses.)

If you just have "too many passwords" to remember, consider using a password manager. These password managers help you store all of your logins in one place.
